Keep the plant in *at-the-very-least-for-the-love-of-god* bright light, that is a spot that is naturally bright, that you can confidently say "yes, this spot is * bright". The plant will tolerate indirect bright light, but you will have to deal with some leaf shedding while it transitions from a california sunshine greenhouse to your city apartment.

How often does the fiddle leaf fig tree need to be watered?

Watering is secondary to light, if you haven't read the lighting section yet, read it. Now.

We hate calling it a watering schedule, and if I could think of another word for it, I would. But point is, you should wait until the first 3 inches of the soil is very dry or when you can see the leaves significantly wilting (don't worry it will perk back up), to water the plant.

So to put it on paper, it should be around once every 2, or 3, or sometimes 4 weeks before you water a full size fiddle leaf this size. It all depends on how long your environment (and the season) can dry out the first 3 inches of the soil (but if you're watering every other day- you're doing something wrong). So monitor it, with your finger, a moisture meter, or a chopstick- whatever you have that you can stick inside the soil and wiggle it around. Remember to do it across a couple spots of the soil

Remember, it's always better to underwater than to overwater, so when in doubt, dry it out, you can always revive an under-watered fiddle leaf but not always the other way around. When it's finally time to water, please water the plant thoroughly. Thoroughly means a continuous 2-3 minutes of slow and loving water around the soil, and you should see some water come down the bottom in most cases. If you don't, take a deep breath- it's okay.
