This dripping red and green beauty hails from Mexico and regions in Central America, where it’s nice and warm and the months surrounding Christmas are hot and balmy. Scientifically known as the Euphorbia pulcherrima, the poinsettia is favored in Christmas and other holiday displays because of it’s matching colors that thrive brightest during these months. After the plant sheds its leaves it can reproduce new plants on its own. Since the plant has both male and female reproductive organs it’s also known as a monoecious or hermaphroditic plant.
